Melody of the Soul

Book one in Liz Tolsma’s “Music of Hope Series”, The Melody of the Soul does not disappoint.  Tolsma does a fantastic job demonstrating the importance of music in our lives.  The Melody of the Soul’s main characters; Anna Zadok, Horst Engel and Anna’s grandmother are all strong, determined and genuine.

Readers easily disturbed by a descriptive narrative of human suffering should proceed with caution.  Tolsma vividly connects the reader to the harsh realities endured by Jews imprisoned in Nazi concentration camps.  Her account is heart-wrenchingly realistic.

A most reprehensible villain, a German soldier, Stefan Jaeger could ruin any hopes Anna and her family have for survival.  Does the man bear any redeeming qualities?  Readers will have to find out for themselves.

The Melody of the Soul is a well-written, captivating story that sincerely tells of the faith and strength one Jewish family exhibited during the holocaust.
