Slow Thaw

Clamped shut, barricaded, sealed
A once tender organ now protected by steel

Fiercely guarded with might
No one breaks through without a fight

Self preservation caused heart to flee
Days now approached with dreaded misery

Heart longs for fellowship, cries alone
Never intended to impersonate stone

Innocent, trusting, naïve
Learned the hard way; others deceive

Seclusion a lonely jail
Yearn to break free from this prison cell

Master gently wields instrument of precision
Breaking through damaged heart with delicate incision

Kind-hearted, gracious and true
Relationships begin to blossom anew

Icy tentacles melt away
Heart rejoices over victorious day

Tender healing begins to flow
Looking forward as friendships grow
