Solitary Reign

Reigning high from lofty throne
Judgment passed, deeds not condoned

Peasants scurry here and there
Desperate to avoid dragon’s lair

Fire breathing, self-righteous ruler
No other found any crueler

Palace life obscures view
Compassion ne’er extended, ‘tis true

Cracking whip; obedience forced
Fear instilled; devotion coerced

False perceptions; diatribes ensue
Imprisonment granted for seekers of truth

Solitary king dies alone
Lifeless body on golden throne
