The Beautiful Ashes of Gomez Gomez

Buck Storm’s The Beautiful Ashes of Gomez Gomez is an intriguing read.  The book’s many characters possess depth not often found in supporting role holders.  There is also the added bonus of Father Enzo, the local Catholic priest’s side story, within the main narrative.

Gomez Gomez is a lost soul who although he has given up on life, his friends have not given up on him and remain loyal despite lifestyle choices.  After losing his beloved wife in a tragic accident, Gomez Gomez finds solace in Thunderbird which leads to conversations with snakes and Elvis’ ghost.  Some of the dialogue with Gomez Gomez and his imaginary friends is a bit difficult to follow.  Still, it adds to the story.

Readers will enjoy meeting the folks of Paradise; Honey, Jake, Early, Katie, and newcomer Matthias while completely disliking greedy local businessman Sonny.  Each plays an important role in the life of Gomez Gomez.

The story has some surprising plot twists that will leave readers laughing, crying, and begging for more.  Overall a page-turning tale of real love.
